Vahid, an Azerbaijani car mechanic, was once imprisoned by the Iranian regime and repeatedly interrogated blindfolded. One day, a man named Eghbal enters his workshop. The squeaking of his prosthetic leg leads Vahid to believe that he recognizes one of his former tormentors in Eghbal. Iranian master director Jafar Panahi was awarded the Palme d'Or for Best Film at Cannes 2025 for A SIMPLE ACCIDENT. Despite being banned from his profession for many years, Jafar Panahi has once again succeeded in creating a film in which humor and seriousness tell a story about today's Iran and about those who dare to resist. Winning the Palme d'Or is not only an artistic triumph, but also a significant victory for freedom of opinion and speech. Panahi has also processed his own experience of imprisonment in this film. On the same day that he was honored with three Gotham Awards, his lawyer announced that he had been sentenced in absentia to another year in prison in Iran for "propaganda against the state".
