Pro Quote presents Feminist Time Travel: The Girls (1968) von Mai Zetterling
In the organizer's words:
Since 2024,ProQuote Film e.V. has been organizing “Feminist Time Travel”— a film series aimed at honoring the significant contributions of FLINTA* filmmakers to the film industry. The series features groundbreaking works and forgotten cinematic gems that leave a lasting impression, experimented with new narrative styles, and explored new perspectives—thereby paving the way for future generations of filmmakers.
OnSeptember 17 at the Filmrauschpalast Moabit, Feminist Time Travel will screen “The Girls” (original title: Flickorna) (1968) by Mai Zetterling (running time: 100 min | original version with German subtitles), followed by a post-screening discussion. Festival director and dramaturg Susanne Bieger has agreed to serve as the event’s patron.
Mai Zetterling’s feminist milestone is an innovative adaptation of Aristophanes’ ancient comedy *Lysistrata*. The film centers on three actresses who go on tour and, during rehearsals for the play, increasingly draw parallels between the play and their own lives and modern, male-dominated society.
