Artistic Presentation

Olaf Metzel – “Avalanche (Bas Jan Ader)” (2015)

With the artwork “Avalanche (Bas Jan Ader),” Olaf Metzel transforms a historical photograph into a large-scale sculpture made of aluminum and stainless steel. At first glance, the artwork resembles a carelessly crumpled newspaper; in fact, it addresses the fragility of historical images and the dynamics of public memory.

Straddling the line between document and sculpture, this artwork explores how history is preserved, altered, and continually reinterpreted.

Collector Talk

Following the exhibition, we look forward to a conversation with art collector Christoph Hertz, who will discuss building a collection of contemporary art, the role of private collectors, and their significance for cultural dialogue.

A group tour of “Production of Reality,” followed by an open discussion with guests about the exhibition, its themes, and the question of how reality is produced and perceived today.

Mischa Kuball – Lecture & Curatorial Talk
An encounter with the internationally renowned artist Mischa Kuball. The focus will be on his artistic practice as well as questions of the public sphere, light, perception, social space, and the role of art in democratic societies.

Sunday, August 30 | 7:00 p.m.
Closing Party
To mark the conclusion of “Production of Reality,” we invite you to an open evening at the project space—art, socializing, and conversation to round out the NRW Day weekend.
