The Kharkiv State Academic Puppet Theater "Viktor Afanasyev" looks back on a history of over 80 years and is now one of the most renowned art collectives in Ukraine. In recent years, the productions of director Oksana Dmitrieva in particular - in creative collaboration with stage designer Natalia Denisova - have attracted a great deal of attention from audiences and critics alike.
A central concern of the theater is the expansion of a repertoire for adults. With "Mainacht" based on Nikolai Gogol, the ensemble is now bringing one of its best-known works to the stage of the Turmtheater.
The magical world of Ukrainian folklore is brought to life from a contemporary perspective. Inspired by Gogol's aesthetics and with great artistic sensitivity, Oksana Dmitrieva, who has been awarded the honorary title of "People's Artist of Ukraine", stages a poetic puppet theater full of expressive power. A special guest performance with Ukrainian folk songs, an impressive atmosphere and touching images that bring culture to life across borders.
The play will be performed in Ukrainian with German subtitles.
