In May, queer artists will perform at the D'haus for four days. Under the motto "Hold me closer", the program is dedicated to the relationships of LGBTQIA* people - with each other, with their own bodies, their origins and the state of the world. Guest appearances, performances, drag shows, parties and panel talks will take place on all stages and in the foyers of the D'haus, dealing with the reality of life for queer people.
On May 14, the fourth edition of the "Drag Star NRW" competition will open the festival, in which five drag artists from North Rhine-Westphalia will compete against each other in a show on the big stage. The competition is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. Schauspiel Köln is taking part with a guest performance of Markus Öhrn's production "Kammerspiele #1 Eifersucht | Die Nacht der Lesben".
In addition to the events and performances, visitors can also look forward to the festival center in the foyer of the D'haus, which is open daily. Queer initiatives and artists will present themselves here and, in cooperation with the Polish Institute Düsseldorf, the Krakow artist Krzysztof Marchlak will show some of his works.
"Queer Art meets Britney X" marks the start of a five-year collaboration between the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Schauspiel Köln. Five festival editions are initially planned until 2030, alternating annually between the two cities. The BRITNEY X festival originated at Schauspiel Köln and was founded in 2017. After eight editions, the festival is now being expanded to Düsseldorf. In May 2027, the festival will take place in Cologne in the newly opened Schauspielhaus on Offenbachplatz.
