Queer Dream House - Lecture Performance along Carmen Maria Machado's In the Dream House and Audre Lorde's Zami: A New Spelling of My Name

Queer Dream House connects Carmen Maria Machado's In the Dream House and Audre Lorde's Zami: A New Spelling of My Name. Both tell of queer life realities - of desire, belonging, violence and self-writing - and develop independent literary forms to do so. While Machado creates a fragmented memory space in order to give language to emotional violence in queer relationships, Lorde creates a poetic genealogy of black, lesbian identity with her "Biomythography".

Fabienne-Deniz Hammer and Linda Elsner take up these texts as spaces of thought and experience: between archive and intimacy, between vulnerability and resistance. In an interplay of theory and theatrical form, Queer Dream House questions narrative itself as a form of political self-empowerment.
