Raphaël Pichon has long enjoyed the highest acclaim for his cleverly conceived programs, in which he uses smaller compositions to find his way to the great masterpieces, combining the familiar with the unfamiliar. For his debut with the Munich Philharmonic, the French conductor chose Schubert's Symphony in B Minor and Mozart's "Great Mass in C Minor," two unfinished masterpieces. He juxtaposes them with a capella choral works and pure instrumental music in an interesting combination, creating an exciting concert dramaturgy with attacca transitions between the works.
