GUEST PERFORMANCE SCHAUSPIEL FRANKFURT

A post-migrant, energetic reinterpretation of Schiller's classic - with wit, anger and force.

Nicolas Sidiropulos and Mark Tumba dismantle Franz, Karl, Amalia and the old Moor and reassemble them with rap elements, music and contemporary language. The play examines belonging, state power and young men's romantic notions of love without losing the self-irony. A rebellious evening of theater that hurls Schiller into the present.

In 2019, the work won the prize for best male actor at the FIESAD international drama school meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

"The further development of the play for Frankfurt takes Schiller's text as a starting point for reflecting on the place of migrant young Germans as men and artists, here deeply serious, there bitterly ironic. What remains of the original text are glimpses of the most important characters, scenes and passages, supplemented by much other material. Tumba and Sidiropulos dance and rap, play the piano, sing and splash themselves copiously with fake blood. But the references between what they have combined are dense. [...] But Tumba and Sidiropulos show everything that can come to mind in Schiller's "Robbers" with a mixture of energy and great tenderness that fits the spirit of the play, which they have almost completely overwritten."
