A mesmerizing dance piece about circulating energy and the question of what gives us strength.

Marie is exhausted. But she’s not done yet. She finds herself in a place many of us pass through: just before everything becomes too much. A place where the system has long since decided that energy is something we’re expected to generate ourselves. More performance. More passion. More dedication. Take a break later. But what if there were another way out? A moment when you decide for yourself what’s enough.

In this dance solo, Marie sets out in search of the mysterious sources of energy. In search of moments of pleasure, flow, and being swept away. For what gives strength rather than draining it. She explores where our energy actually flows, how to direct it—and whether it can be shared, redirected, or even multiplied.

Together with the audience, Marie opens the doors to a secret society—one made up of those who repeatedly resolve to take more breaks. They know that everything that goes out must eventually come back. They sense that somewhere between productivity and procrastination, undiscovered reserves of energy lie hidden.

New Trouble 

The interdisciplinary productions by Antje Velsinger / new trouble address current sociopolitical challenges. Her productions are based on extensive research, during which she initiates dialogue with actors from other social and academic fields. The stage productions by Antje Velsinger / new trouble bring the experiences of this intensive research to life in a poetic way. They devise temporary escape strategies and fictional refuges, and explore alternative ways of dealing with the challenges of our time. The core artistic team of Antje Velsinger / new trouble consists of Heike Bröckerhoff (dramaturgy), Julia Krause (sound), Mark Christoph Klee (creative production), Annalena Berger/transmissions (financial dramaturgy), and Antje Velsinger (artistic direction & choreography).

Antje Velsinger

works as a choreographer, performer, and researcher in the field of contemporary performing arts in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hamburg. She studied choreography and performance at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Giessen and earned her Ph.D. as part of the Hamburg Research Training Group “Performing Citizenship,” focusing on choreographic practices of self-distancing. Velsinger’s distinctive approach—understanding choreography as a research-based practice—leads to collaborative and multifaceted work within the interdisciplinary artistic team. Antje Velsinger’s works have been presented at venues including the Lichthoftheater, K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg, Tanzhaus NRW Düsseldorf, PACT Zollverein Essen, C60 Bochum, EinTanzHaus Mannheim, Schwankhalle Bremen, Sophiensaele Berlin, and Mousonturm Frankfurt. As a lecturer, Antje Velsinger has taught at various universities, including the University of the Arts Stockholm, the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Giessen, and the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
