Regina Halmich: Die Herrin der Ringe
In the organizer's words:
Regina Halmich tells her life story: as the first German women’s boxing world champion and one of the most successful female boxers in the world. She weaves her personal experiences into the milestones of an extraordinary journey in competitive sports.
In *Die Herrin der Ringe* (The Lady of the Rings), Halmich recounts her rise to fame in detail for the first time—from a sheltered childhood in her parents’ home in Karlsruhe-Daxlanden to the pinnacle of international boxing. She describes how she found her way in a sport that was heavily male-dominated at the time and the hurdles she had to overcome along the way. With candor and a great deal of humor, she recounts her early days in combat sports, defining moments in her career, as well as setbacks and successes in the ring. It also becomes clear what prejudices and sexist structures she faced—and how she was able to hold her own despite them. In addition to her athletic career, the book offers insights into her private life. Regina Halmich talks about friendships, relationships, and disappointments outside the ring, revealing the personal side behind the public figure.
The result is an honest and inspiring portrait of a pioneer of women’s boxing—and at the same time, a story of perseverance, self-determination, and the courage to consistently pursue one’s own goals, even in the face of opposition.
Regina Halmich, born on November 22, 1976, in Karlsruhe-Daxlanden, is Germany’s first women’s boxing world champion and one of the most successful female boxers in the world. She reigned as the undefeated world boxing champion for twelve years: 56 fights, 54 wins (16 by knockout), and 1 draw. As a pioneer, she shaped the sport of women’s boxing, won numerous titles, and received the highest honors. Regina Halmich is the only German to have been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in the U.S. Today, she is an author, speaker, and coach, and lives in Berlin. Regina shows her peers that giving up is not an option: “I’ve never taken a step back—unless it was to take a running start.”
