Mother & daughter explore Canada's wilderness

A 13-year-old who doesn't like hiking. A mother who absolutely has to go out. And the untamed high mountains of the Canadian Rockies, where they both grow - step by step, meter by meter.

After the tragic loss of their father, a world collapses for Analena and her mother Verena. In search of stability, movement and meaning, they decide to take an unusual path: two summers in the Canadian wilderness with the aim of writing a hiking guide - without ever having undertaken such an expedition before. While Verena can't get enough of hiking, Analena embarks on the adventure with little enthusiasm and great skepticism.

Together, they cover around 600 kilometers and climb some 27,000 meters in altitude. Their path leads through snowstorms and over exposed ridges, through scree fields, passes and mosquito-infested valleys, past bear territories and through the remote habitats of the wildland caribou. Multi-day trekking tours, risky encounters with nature and constant togetherness pose both physical and emotional challenges for the two of them.

Conflicts, doubts and exhaustion are just as much a part of the journey as amazement, perseverance and a deep bond. From being on the road every day, from living in tents, long stages and shared summit experiences, a strong team ultimately grows - and a new perspective on loss, resilience and moving on.
