Domestic violence against women: The figures are clear, the suffering almost unbearable; and yet the violence and, above all, the women affected often remain invisible.

In her documentary FASSADEN, read by Sandra Hüller, Alina Cyranek reveals what women experience in toxic relationships, the effects of violence on their lives and how they find a way out and help.

Sandra Hüller tells the story of a woman who breaks out of a long-term violent relationship and the story of a political and social system that prefers to look the other way. The film shows the male and patriarchal power structures behind the facades and how the state not only fails to protect women adequately, but even exposes them to real dangers.

The narrative was condensed from four true accounts into one story in order to guarantee the anonymity of the women. All the events actually happened, nothing has been invented. In addition to dance and animation, expert interviews, which clearly and objectively classify the power relations and relationship structures, form the documentary framework. FASSADEN is not a film that is easy to consume, but a challenge for the viewer. Domestic violence and the statistics associated with it are brutal, harrowing and physical.
