"Girls can't play soccer." - Pauline, Chayenne, Eriona, Liv and the other girls in the team have heard this and similar sayings all too often, despite their young age. But the SGS Essen-Schönebeck U15 players are not fazed by this - because they are among the best footballers in their age group in the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The six-part documentary series KICKEN WIE EIN MÄDCHEN tells the story of girls from the Ruhr region who share one thing: a passion for soccer and the dream of becoming a professional footballer. They all play for the SGS Essen-Schönebeck club, the last all-female club in the Bundesliga, which is committed to promoting female talent. The coaches teach young girls not to let their potential - in sport and in other areas of life - go to waste, to develop self-confidence and to have the confidence to perform at their best.

KICKING LIKE A GIRL is a documentary series about empowerment. It shows how important it is to support girls so that they can develop their talents. At the same time, it aims to increase the visibility of women's soccer - representative of many other areas in society in which the achievements of women are not recognized to the same extent as those of men. We are confronted with issues such as inequality of opportunity, the gender pay gap, the role of female role models and dealing with bullying. Because girls who want to play soccer are still confronted with prejudice and discrimination these days.
