Review #1 – Helmut Keppler

In the organizer's words:

Review #1 - Helmut Keppler

Helmut Keppler (1924-2019) left behind an impressive constructivist oeuvre that is worthy of being discovered by a wider audience.

Over the coming years, the r8m gallery will be working with Helmut Keppler's children to make his work accessible to the public. The 8DAYS exhibition "Review #1 - Helmut Keppler" marks the beginning.

You are cordially invited - we look forward to your visit!

Helmut Keppler initially completed a thorough training in the graphic arts before studying at the Stuttgart Art Academy in 1948 - after the war and imprisonment - and becoming part of the "Stuttgart School". His collaboration with Anton Stankowski in particular had a lasting impact on his work.

From 1954, Keppler worked as a freelance artist, graphic artist and designer, consistently combining art and design in his work. In line with Theo van Doesburg's ideas on Concrete Art, his aim was to create order through art - free from subjective feelings and towards clear, technical constructions. He developed his own artistic language by transforming everyday motifs from nature into abstract, mathematically precise compositions such as rotations and ray shapes.
