Sampha: »Satellite Business«

London-based artist Sampha has shaped global music production over the past decade with emotional depth: As a producer or guest vocalist, he has worked with Solange, Kendrick Lamar and Alicia Keys, among others; and with his debut album "Process", he released a meditative reflection on loss, grief and self-discovery in 2017, which was awarded the British Mercury Music Prize. His second album "Lahai" followed in the fall of 2023, named after his grandfather and his own middle name and inspired by the birth of his daughter. DER SPIEGEL described "Lahai" as "a soulful statement that oscillates enchantingly between beauty and nervousness, soul, jazz and avant-pop." Repetitive minimal music patterns alternate with warm soul sounds and hyper-nervous drum'n'bass beats, which wrap themselves around Sampha's fragile falsetto vocals like a nervous blanket and make the emotional complexity of this forward-looking music palpable. Sampha is now presenting his "Satellite Business" show, a special concert in a 360-degree setting, at the Elbphilharmonie as part of the Kampnagel International Summer Festival.
