The Institute for Control and Excess, founded at the Heidelberg Theater, conducted research on Heidelberg’s fraternity and sorority culture for the development of this play: The team spoke with fraternity and sorority members, activists, and former members—and is even said to have been guests at fraternity and sorority houses. Driven by the desire to penetrate the opaque fabric of these fraternities, an immersive theatrical evening has been created. It tells of close friendships and toxic masculinity, of cherished rituals and conventions that haven’t aged well, of drinking, fencing, honor—and degrading violence. An evening that brings people together.
