The Düsseldorf artist Bernd Schwarzer has dedicated himself wholeheartedly to a Gesamtkunstwerk. Schwarzer calls it the "European work of art". Politically charged in this way, his paintings hang not only in museums, but also in Bellevue Palace with the German Federal President, in the Bundestag and soon in the European Parliament. Although Schwarzer's impasto technique and his craftsmanship are unique - some even claim he is a genius - he is losing control of himself and his art. Schwarzer strains the patience of his collectors and gallery owners and drives those who believe in him to sheer despair. The artist seems to have lost all measure of himself and his art.

The film "Schwarzer's Cosmos" is a moral portrait of an eccentric art market with all the associated clichés of non-conformity, freedom, genius and madness. At the end of the film, the only question is whether the artist himself will survive this madness.
