SELIG

Hamburg, spring 1993. In a pub on St. Pauli, Jan Plewka and Christian Neander decide to form a band. Their first songs are written, and so the two invite Leo Schmidthals, Stoppel Eggert and Malte Neumann into the rehearsal room. It's love at first note. Their sound is influenced by Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and the Black Crowes, and they are the first to combine it with German lyrics. The music press calls it German Grunge or Hippie Metal. Exceptional videos and a strong live presence attract attention and countless sold-out concerts and appearances at the biggest festivals. But with fame come demons, and so after the first three albums they suddenly call it a day. The big break then lasts almost ten years, but when the time is ripe, the band and their old and new fans celebrate a magnificent comeback with new music, new energy and golden honors. From SELIG's debut in 1994 to the present day, Plewka's lyrics combined with the band's sound have been an absolutely unique selling point. For the fans, SELIG was and is a part of their soundtrack, their story, their attitude towards life. Many of SELIG's songs have become evergreens, and their concerts are highly emotional happenings. SELIG's love for the stage remains today, and so the now four musicians are looking forward to celebrating their band and many of their songs at this year's anniversary with 14 shows in the fall of 2023.
