Short Monday: Emerging Artists
presented by the SK Stiftung Kultur, curated by the AG Kurzfilm

Every two years since 2013, AG Kurzfilm and German Films have published a program dedicated to young German experimental film. With this programme, the organizers aim to promote strongly artistically oriented film and video art works that can be exploited not only at festivals, but also via the art market in museums or galleries.

Two giants that exist here - a German fairy tale
Director: Gianna Scholten (DE 2023) 21 min.

The film confronts us with the right-wing spiritual movement in Germany, which became very popular during the coronavirus pandemic. In symbolic encounters, such as a train ride past the Lorelei, accompanied by Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries", original sound recordings from the far-right conspiracy scene are juxtaposed with the visually impressive aesthetics of German fairy tales.

Speaking Flowers
Director: Conrad Veit, Charlotte Maria Kätzl (DE 2023) 19 min.

Is this the swan song to the beauty of nature, when the flowers ask themselves "Am I the only one still alive?". Speaking Flowers is a Super 8 film ironically overloaded with flowers and fairytale film motifs, in which even the seemingly only humanoid being is a flower that leads us through the action and yet leaves us behind in a void of floral abundance.

technically_breathing
Director: Markéta Müllerová (DE 2024) 6 min.

"technically_breathing" is a 3D animated film that raises the question of whether avatars and artificial intelligence really breathe or just create an illusion. The film sheds light on the fact that breathing can be understood as an act of survival and resistance in times of social crisis.

The Currency - Sensing 1 Agbogbloshie
Director: Gregor Kasper, Elom 20ce, Musquiqui Chihying (DE/TW/TG 2023) 16 min.

An experimental poetic investigation of one of the world's largest e-waste recycling sites Agbogbloshie as a contact zone of complex global economic, social, power-political and technological processes.

HeLa et al.
Director: Tess Marschner (DE/ES 2024) 13 min.

"HeLa et al." is a reflection on reproductive bodies in the techno-sciences: Henrietta Lacks' eternal cell line, the cloned sheep Dolly, artificial wombs, egg cells and mice appear both as scientific products and as actors* who confuse the concept of the human.

Man Up
Director: Vera Kayh, Leve Kühl, Marie Scholjegerdes (DE 2023) 5 min.

20-year-old El embarks on a search for his understanding of masculinity. To do so, he comes to terms with his relationship with his father and fights for his new masculinity. This struggle is expressed in a dance. We see how he struggles for this meaning in a physical way.

The film series "Short Monday - Der Kurzfilm-Montag im Filmhaus Köln" is an initiative of the KFFK/Kurzfilmfestival Köln, the SK Stiftung Kultur and the Filmhaus Kino and is curated alternately by the three cooperation partners. The series, which takes place on the second Monday of each month, aims to give short film greater public visibility and a regular platform in Cologne.
