The road to the top: Lena Oberdorf's rise in women's soccer

Lena Oberdorf is regarded as one of the best female footballers in Germany and Europe. And the defensive midfielder has already experienced a lot in her soccer career, even though she is just 22 years old. She became champion with VfL Wolfsburg and won the cup three times with the team. She also reached the 2023 Champions League final and played a fantastic European Championship tournament with the national team in 2022, where the German team only lost to England in the final. And Oberdorf was named the best young player of the tournament. But she also had to learn to deal with heavy falls: At the 2023 World Cup, the German team was knocked out of the tournament in the preliminary round for the first time and VfL Wolfsburg also suffered a major disappointment in the summer of 2023 when they failed to qualify for the Champions League. Her current injury is also part of this.

Lena Oberdorf currently plays for FC Bayern Munich and is a role model for many young players. In this book, she talks about her soccer career, what drives and motivates her. Written by Anna Dreher (editor of Süddeutsche Zeitung).
