When you think of tango nuevo, you immediately have a very specific sound in mind: the sound of bandoneon magician Astor Piazzolla, who revived Argentina's musical mother tongue with his sentimental melodies. At the end of the year, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne celebrates this composer of the century with illustrious guests.
Together with the Spanish star violinist Leticia Moreno and the brilliant Argentine bandoneonist Omar Massa, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne will perform Piazzolla's "Four Seasons" as well as the bandoneon concerto "Aconcagua," named after the highest mountain in South America. But before the program culminates in Piazzolla's hit "Libertango," this New Year's Eve concert is rhythmically vibrant - including dances by Piazzolla's teacher Alberto Ginastera.
