A Painting Takes Shape
What does it look like when grease leaves its mediating position between machine parts and becomes the subject on a large canvas? What kind of image do we see when slime—in biology, the protective boundary between two cells—serves no other purpose than to reveal itself? Anik Lazar takes these questions as the starting point for her painting and lets the fluid material take center stage: Instead of flowing through children’s hands, SLIME winds itself around itself, larger than life, against a black background.
