Songs of Love and Infection
Sound Performance and Poetry Reading by Edoardo Micheli and Jennifer de Negri
This sound and poetry performance emerged from a collaboration between musician Edoardo Micheli and author Jennifer de Negri and explores cross-species storytelling and queer feminist ecologies. In Micheli’s artistic practice, listening as a form of testimony and keeping a diary have always played a central role in his musical work. Listening means being aware of one’s own limits and difficulties while simultaneously opening oneself to other voices, rhythms, and melodies from other human, nonhuman, andmore-than-humanbodies. Accordingly, De Negri’s long poem*Wolbachia: love songs in times of extinction*explores the interrelationships between insects and microbes while simultaneously questioning the concepts of gender and love. This performance could be viewed as a form of fabulation or perhaps as an attempt to use words and sounds to narrate a posthuman mythology of dwelling and coexistence.
