At the beginning of the 1990s, during the Croatian war, twelve-year-old Aleksandra Zec, a Serbian girl from Zagreb, is brutally murdered. Although the perpetrators are quickly found, they remain unpunished due to political pressure. This crime and the social ignorance surrounding it continue to shape Croatia's collective memory to this day. A quarter of a century later, director Oliver Frljic, known for his provocative plays, is working on this case. The rehearsals bring hidden traumas to light. For the twelve-year-old actress Nina, a feeling arises as if the war had never ended.
The documentary traces how a generation born 20 years after the bloody Yugoslav wars struggles with the shadows of the past. Five percent of the Croatian population is of Serbian descent, but thousands of children hide their identity for fear of discrimination. With unsparing openness, the film shows how art becomes collective psychotherapy, revealing not only the past but also the burning topicality of this conflict. (Slijepčević, HR 2018 - FSK 18 - OmdU)
