Šta Ima!? Ništa. Festival 2024

For 26 years, the association balkaNet e.V. has stood for a lively representation and social platform for lovers of (Southeast) European music, culture and art in Munich. Since April 2021, we have been organizing the cultural-intellectual meeting every fourth Saturday of the month in the Glockenbachwerkstatt: the balkaNet Ming(R)a Lounge. This event brings together a diverse audience to celebrate the rich traditions and contemporary influences of the region. (More information at balkanet.de)

The Šta Ima! Festival was first launched in 2014 by the Munich City Library and the Munich Adult Education Center, curated by Balkanet e.V. board members Asmir Šabić and Iris Špringer. In 2024, the festival will be proudly revived to present a series of events exploring the cultural identity and history of Southeast Europe through literature, art and music.

A prominent program item of the Šta Ima! Ništa. Festival is the multimedia performance "YUDeJaVu", which will premiere at the Münchner Kammerspiele on November 7 and 8, 2024. In this performance, the audience is taken on a musical journey through the socio-cultural history of the former Yugoslavia. Central themes such as war, identity and migration take center stage. Interactive and immersive elements create a profound reflection on cultural identity in a fragmented world.

Another thematic focus of YUDeJaVu and the festival as a whole is the contrast between Yugoslavia as a utopia of modern art and the rise of right-wing extremism. These themes will be addressed in a variety of artistic ways, offering the audience a differentiated approach to historical and current issues.

The main venue will be the balkaNet Ming(R)a Lounge in the Glockenbachwerkstatt, supplemented by events in the Bellevue di Monaco, the Kammerspiele and the Fat Cat in the Gasteig.

Our aim is to promote artistic and socio-cultural exchange, not only within the Southeast European community, but throughout Munich. By curating a program that offers new perspectives and networking opportunities, we contribute to the diversity of the city and enrich Munich's cultural landscape.

The events from October to December 2024 are funded by the Cultural Department of the LHS Munich & "Hinter ins Land" (VPBy, Bavarian State Ministry of Art and Science)
