With the "Stelldichein!" series, the Bavarian State Opera takes the upcoming premiere as its starting point and develops individual formats with cultural partners in the city.
In the run-up to the new production of "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss, "Stelldichein!" is a guest at the Bergson Pop-Up Store and is dedicated to the waltz. In conversation with Bergson Program Director Maximilian Maier, General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski outlines the history of the origin of this dance between order and ecstasy, its manifestations in various European countries, at different epochs and at historical breaking points. It is about the changeable and politically surprisingly explosive history of the dance and music form of the waltz, from the harmless country dance in the village tavern to the morally offensive whirl of couples in the ballroom. Jurowski himself plays the piano, while Corinna Desch (violin) and Louise Foor (soprano) perform waltzes by Strauss, Gounod and Shostakovich, among others. The composer Leonhard Kuhn brings the waltz into the present day. He is the musical mastermind of the Jazzrausch Bigband, Bergson Artist and analyzes the significance of the waltz for electronic music in general and his work in particular with musical examples.
