Torn between the freedom of the waves and social constraints, three surfing enthusiasts struggle with social and political hurdles. Majid, a kitesurfing instructor in Tarifa, Spain, longs for his family, who are stuck in Morocco due to visa restrictions. He makes his way through the jungle of bureaucracy to offer them the possibility of a European passport. In Biarritz, France, Margaux challenges gender stereotypes in the heteronormative surf scene. Fed up with sexist stereotypes, she and her friends organize Europe's first LGBTQ-friendly surf festival. And in Derry, Rosy escaped the unrest of the Northern Ireland conflict by surfing. Despite Brexit and the pandemic, he took a risk and started his own business as a surfboard shaper. SURF ON, EUROPE! explores Europe's promise of freedom and the ongoing challenges that threaten it.
