Born Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown in Inglewood, California, singer Swae Lee first rose to prominence as the younger and melodic half of Southern hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd. Swae's eclectic music and distinctive, wholly original sound can be traced back to his childhood in Texas, which was a pivotal point in his musical beginnings at around the age of 11.

In addition to school and family recreational activities, Swae tried his hand at music production and recording software and learned how to mix audio. Swae has also made a name for himself outside of his work as part of the duo, establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with both inside and outside of the hip-hop scene. Songs such as French Montana's diamond-winning track 'Unforgettable' highlight his vocal prowess, while his impressive list of songwriting credits includes Beyoncé's 'Formation'. Swae's melodic repertoire is not limited exclusively to the R&B and hip-hop realm, however, as his vocals can also take ballad form and blend equally well into a more electronic background - a complex twin in many ways.
