With the authors Daniel Schreiber and Noemi Y. Molitor.
The photographer Peter Hujar (1934-1987) was a central figure in the New York downtown scene in the 1970s and 1980s. His main interest was portrait photography, but his work also included animal, landscape and architectural motifs. He photographed friends and lovers, people in his surroundings and also animals with an impressive intimacy and emotional depth. At the same time, his pictures show Hujar as a chronicler of a time of social and sexual upheaval.
You can look forward to a discussion between the two authors Daniel Schreiber and Noemi Y. Molitor, who will talk about Peter Hujar's life and work and the community he so often depicts. Afterwards, we will show the film Peter Hujar's Day, which retells a day in the life of the photographer based on an interview with Hujar's friend Linda Rosenkrantz.
