Not far from the Haus der Kunst, the Eisbach flows through the English Garden, famous for its standing wave and one of Munich’s best-known bodies of water. Since 2008, Tao Schirrmacher, European champion in river surfing, has been diving for the items that people lose here. He named his collection “Lost and Drowned.” What began with a single gold ring has grown over the years into an impressive collection of jewelry, everyday objects, and curious artifacts from the past. The result is a hidden archive at the bottom of the Eisbach that offers an unusual glimpse into the city and its people. Under the title“Eisbach Treasures,” the collection is now on view at the Archiv Galerie of the Haus der Kunst.
