Scenic reading by TV actors Mechthild Großmann, André Kaczmarczyk, Nina Kunzendorf, Peter Kurth, Bjarne Mädel, Oliver Mommsen, Daniel Sträßer and others - on December 1, 2024 - Schauspielhaus, Großes Haus
The central Mediterranean is one of the deadliest escape routes in the world. Every year, thousands of people die on Europe's external border in a desperate attempt to reach safety. The European Union, which was founded on the pursuit of peace and claims to be the guardian of humanitarian values, is shirking its duty to save people. The EU and its member states are deliberately abandoning those seeking protection. The number of drownings - over 30,000 in the past 10 years - as well as human rights violations and other breaches of the law are increasing: The Mediterranean is not only a mass grave, but also a crime scene.
"Tatort Mittelmeer" is a staged reading that takes place in different theaters every year and will stop off at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in December. Actors who are known as television investigators from Tatort, Polizeiruf 110 and Sörensen focus on the Mediterranean as a crime scene: Mechthild Großmann, André Kaczmarczyk, Nina Kunzendorf , Peter Kurth, Bjarne Mädel, Oliver Mommsen and Daniel Sträßerread eyewitness accounts and stories of those rescued from distress at sea as well as the documentation of breaches of the law in the Mediterranean, witnessed and recorded by the SOS Humanity rescue crew. The reading "Crime Scene Mediterranean" aims to amplify the voices of those who are rarely heard: people on the run. The reading will be accompanied by music from the Palestinian-Syrian pianist Aeham Ahmad, who was awarded the "International Beethoven Prize for Human Rights" in 2015.
SOS Humanity is committed to a world in which the human rights of all are respected. SOS Humanity stands for humanity at sea and on land. Since 2015, the association has been committed to ensuring that no one has to drown while fleeing and that everyone is treated with dignity.
The scenic reading "Tatort Mittelmeer" is intended to draw more attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Mediterranean, which has been ongoing for years, and to raise funds for the life-saving missions of the rescue ship "Humanity 1". - SOS Humanity, Berlin
