The taz panterstiftung invites you to a theatrical monologue and a discussion with writer Amir Valle and Cuban journalists about the current situation and possible prospects for Cuba.

🐾 Roxana Pineda is a Cuban theater director and actress. She is a founding member of the Estudio Teatral de Santa Clara ensemble and directs the Magdalena Sin Fronteras festival, which brings together women in theater from around the world. Pineda is currently on a sabbatical fellowship at the Fondazione Fo Rame in Italy.
A conversation with:
🐾 Amir Valle is a Cuban writer, journalist, and literary critic. He is best known for his crime novels. Since 2006, he has been living and working in involuntary exile in Berlin. Because of his criticism of conditions in Cuba, his works are banned in his homeland and his name has been removed from official literary histories.
🐾 Mauricio Mendoza is a Cuban journalist who has worked for independent media outlets such as Diario de Cuba, elTOQUE, and El País. In 2021, he was arrested during a demonstration by artists, journalists, and activists in front of the Cuban Ministry of Culture in Havana. Since then, the government has labeled him a “counterrevolutionary.” Mendoza has been living in exile since 2024.
🐾 Cynthia de la Cantera is a Cuban journalist. She left Cuba for Nuremberg after being persecuted for her reporting for the independent digital magazine Yucabyte and for participating in a peaceful protest. She is an expert on digital media in Cuba.
🐾 Bernd Pickert will moderate the event. He is the U.S. and Latin America editor at taz and has led several workshops with journalists from Cuba for the taz panterstiftung.
The event will take place in German and Spanish with simultaneous translation.
