Jetzt schreiben – Gegenwart lesen. Lesungen und Gespräche mit Autor*innen des Schreibhain
In the organizer's words:
The Schreibhain writers' school and the Schiller Library cordially invite you to the second edition of the reading series "Jetzt schreiben - Gegenwart lesen". The theme of the evening is - fittingly for Wedding - "Work". Three authors will read from their works and talk about working on their texts and the realities of being an author. In an exchange with the audience, the topic of "work" will also be discussed with regard to art: What do we expect from art at a time when social value seems to be primarily linked to performance and financial returns? What constitutes artistic creation? What conditions do we need in order to produce creative work? And what value does this work really have?
An evening for everyone who loves literature, wants to be inspired and is in the mood for encounters, discussions and new perspectives. All are welcome.
The guests are:
Alexandra Harth's novel "Als ich in tobenden Zeiten schlief", just published by Braumüller-Verlag, is set in the exile milieu of New Mexico in the 1940s, where the writer Anna Seghers tries to survive in a world characterized by loss, hopelessness and homesickness. In his prose, Christoph Charlie Hein explores the intersection of queer and East German life experiences. He is the recipient of the 2026 working grant for German-language literature from the state of Berlin. His debut novel will be published by Blumenbar (Aufbau Verlage) in 2027. Christian Engel is currently a Schreibhain scholarship holder. The jury's statement said: "Engel impresses with his clear, propulsive language. The text is simultaneously tender and raw and so atmospherically written that it can only be read in pictures."
The evening will be hosted by the poet and slam poet Gurbet Narin.
