Heine's places of longing in France
In the summer months, Heinrich Heine regularly escaped the heat of the city to relax by the sea or in the French countryside. "A fortnight ago, I finally managed to escape Paris and have been traveling in beautiful Provence ever since," he wrote in a letter to Franz Liszt. The writer "swarmed" through Brittany "partly for the fishing, partly to get to know the coasts". However, Heine was also productive in the summer months and wrote some of his most important texts.
Over a breakfast of café and croissants, Heine's forays into the French vacation regions are explored. Original text passages and excerpts from correspondence will be accompanied by jazz standards on the piano.
