Almost everyone uses digital devices and services every day, especially young people. They permeate our everyday lives and affect many of our basic rights. Not everyone is aware of this, but we should be. After all, we have a right to ensure that our fundamental rights are not violated on the internet.

Take part in our discussion event on 7.5.2026 at 12.30 p.m. on the topic of fundamental rights in the digital world at the Düsseldorf Central Library. The panelists will be:

• Dilek Engin (spokesperson for the SPD parliamentary group in the Committee for Schools and Education of the NRW state parliament),

• Christina Osei (President of the Association of Libraries of the State of NRW, VBNW) (requested)

• Alice Wiegand (Chairwoman of the Board of Wikimedia Deutschland e. V. and Data Protection Officer of the City of Düsseldorf)

The following questions will be discussed:

• How and where do fundamental rights apply in relation to digital offerings?

• Where are fundamental rights under threat and why?

• What can we all do to stand up for fundamental rights in the digital world?

The discussion will be moderated by Heike Gleibs (Head of Digital Education, Democracy and Culture at Wikimedia Deutschland e. V.).
