Franz Welser-Möst has been at the helm of the Cleveland Orchestra for almost a quarter of a century - a longstanding close collaboration that has paid off in artistic excellence. And as one of the best orchestras on the American continent, the orchestra should not be missing from the Elbphilharmonie's focus on the USA. On the program: works that build bridges between the "new" and the "old" world. Richard Strauss must have been a very proud family man - after all, he poured everyday life into music with his Sinfonia domestica, which is more reminiscent of the deeds of a bold hero than a lively visit from relatives. Premiered in New York, the exuberant music was enthusiastically received on both sides of the Atlantic.
