The HU - HISHIGTEN Europe Tour 2024

A 2019 NPR report featured "a band from Mongolia that blends the screaming guitars of heavy metal with traditional Mongolian throat singing," highlighting The HU's cultural significance and unique musical identity. Founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, The HU - consisting of producer Dashka and members Gala, Jaya, Temka and Enkush - is a modern rock group rooted in the traditions of their homeland. The band's name means "human" in Mongolian, and their unique approach combines instruments such as the morin khuur (horse-headed fiddle), tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), tumur khuur (Jew's harp) and throat singing with contemporary sounds, creating a unique sound profile they call "Hunnu Rock".

Their 2019 debut album The Gereg hit #1 on the World Album and Top New Artist charts and has been praised by critics including Billboard, NPR, GQ, The Guardian, The Independent, Revolver and even Sir Elton John himself. Their appeal was immediately recognized worldwide with sold-out tours in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia and recognized by their home country, which awarded them Mongolia's highest state award, the Order of Genghis Khan, bestowed upon the band by the President of Mongolia, Kh. Battulga in 2020.

A deluxe version of The Gereg featured collaborations with Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm and caught the attention of Metallica, who heard their Mongolian rendition of "Sad But True" and subsequently recruited them for their Metallica Blacklist album, which was released in 2021 with The HU's cover of "Through The Never" alongside other high-profile guest artists including Miley Cyrus, Chris Stapleton, Phoebe Bridgers, J Balvin, St. Vincent and many others. The band also became "canon" in the Star Wars fan community after writing and recording an original song for EA Games' Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which was included in the game.

THE HU released their second album Rumble Of Thunder in 2022 via Better Noise Music and have continued to tour around the globe, including performances in Japan and at festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza and Download Festival. Recently, the band was featured on the soundtrack for Better Noise Films' thriller The Retaliators and also appeared in the film. In November 2022, The HU became the first rock/metal band ever to be honored with the prestigious UNESCO "Artist of Peace" award by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Previous recipients include Celine Dion, Shirley Bassey, Sarah Brightman, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller and World Orchestra For Peace.
