Assaf Levitin & Albrecht Gündel-vom-Hofe Ensemble
What does the Sound of Israeli Jazz sound like? Israeli musicians have belonged to the royal class of this genre for more than 20 years. But jazz was never mainstream in Israel, certainly not in the early years when the dominant culture in this young country was Eastern European.
But of course Israeli composers have been inspired by jazz over the years, and this is reflected in their songs.
When Assaf Levitin and Albrecht Gündel-vom-Hofe started the project "The IsReal Book", they deliberately did not have a "jazzing-up" of Israeli folk songs in mind. Instead, they present well-known and lesser-known songs from Israel that already have jazz in them. In the program Assaf Levitin also presents his own compositions.
An event in the framework of the Jewish Culture Days Hamburg.
