The Waves(Performance, Drama)
Performance series inspired by the works of Virginia Woolf
The performance “The Waves” is a two-part evening that explores, through association, the themes of Virginia Woolf’s eponymous novel *The Waves* as well as the phenomenon of white noise.
“White noise” refers both to a physical phenomenon (the uniform distribution of all frequencies) and to a cultural condition: information overload, background noise, mental overload, but also protection, calm, and mental escape.
“The Waves,” on the other hand, uses Woolf’s polyphonic, wave-like prose as a template for choreographic and vocal structures.
Between the pieces, a tension arises between noise (White Noise) and flow (The Waves). In the context of the sculptures—as concentrated, frozen forms in motion—a tension emerges with living bodies, between permanence and transience, between clarity and superimposition.
Choreography, Direction: Armine Aleksanyan, Tamta Rigishvili, Peter Wallgram,
Production: Center for Film and Media Art, Wuppertal
