Theateressenz Offenbach - Profesor Mamlock

1933: The world-famous Jewish doctor Professor Mamlock tries to keep his work, his clinic and his family away from all political conflicts. Fearing for what he had achieved, blind to reality and trusting in the good in people, Mamlock continued to work under the racist rulers. His son, however, loses confidence and goes underground, his wife attests to the same stubbornness he sees in his opponents, his daughter begins her own form of rebellion against him. Mamlock fails.

The doctor and writer Friedrich Wolf wrote "Professor Mamlock" in exile shortly after the National Socialists came to power. It was filmed in 1961 by Konrad Wolf, one of the most important and influential filmmakers of the GDR, namesake of the Babelsberg Film University and son of Friedrich Wolf. The Hamburg Sprechwerk production shown at the Capitol scratches the surface of the present, reflecting current political events and discovering parallels. Attacks on synagogues, mosques and refugee homes are on the increase; the aversion to foreigners is growing and at the same time the crowd is silenced and speechless with horror. What remains is bewilderment and a looming question: how quickly can a society deny or forget its own history?

Gustav Peter Wöhler, who joined Claus Peymann's Schauspielhaus Bochum in 1981 after training at the Westfälische Schauspielschule Bochum, shines in this production. In 1982, he moved to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Here he was a member of the ensemble for 14 years and worked with renowned directors. He has been a freelance actor for film, TV and theater since 1996. He has appeared in numerous film and television productions, including the Nordholm films, SK Kölsch, "Allmen und die Libellen", "Schuld" after Ferdinand von Schirach, Tatort, "Sieben Zwerge" and the Doris Dörrie films "Bin ich schön" and "Erleuchtung garantiert". Other roles will be played by Theresa Berlage, Stephan Arweiler, Jasmin Buterfas, Joachim Liesert, Stella Wiemann, Christoph Plöhn and Holger Umbreit.
