SUNDAY SPECIAL (JAZZ/READING)
THELONICA
Thelonica is an evening dedicated to Pannonica de Koenigswarter (née Rothschild), the patron of the arts who became famous asthe “Jazz Baroness,”and her love and admiration for Thelonious Monk. Through the brilliant collaboration between pianist Jonas Landerschier and saxophonist Lieven Brunckhorst, who interpret Thelonious Monk’s compositions, and the text by Sebastian Schlösser—in which Catrin Striebeck, as the Jazz Baroness, stumbles through the night— the shimmering, creative atmosphere of the New York jazz club scene is brought back to life through these extraordinary biographies.
A tribute to music and love. In that spirit… in the words of Thelonious’ son Toot:“He was a hip jazzer and she was a hot chick.”
