In the organizer's words:

The opening concert of the Sounds of Ukraine festival is dedicated to the subtle dialog between Ukrainian and French music in the works of Theodore Akimenko and Claude Debussy.
Between Romanticism and Impressionism, a sound world of great color unfolds - with rarely performed solo piano works and music for piano four hands. A highlight of the evening is Akimenko's cycle Caprices des harmonies, which is being performed here for the first time in Germany.

The musicians at the concert come from the Ukraine. The young pianist Oleksandr Oliinyk from Poltava performs regularly at home and abroad, is a prizewinner of international competitions and a scholarship holder of the Presidential Fund of Ukraine and is consistently committed to promoting Ukrainian music.

The artistic director of the festival is the pianist Violina Petrychenko, who will also perform as a soloist on this evening. With international training, numerous CD recordings and concert projects, she brings the classical music of Ukraine to European stages.

Sounds of Ukraine makes forgotten music audible again - quiet, profound and timelessly topical.
