Thinking inside out: Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung

In the joint lecture series thinking inside out by ZKM and HfG, we invite guests from the fields of philosophy, literature and art to an open exchange with members of the university, ZKM staff and the people of Karlsruhe.

About the guest: Prof. Dr. Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung is a curator, author and biotechnologist. He is currently the director and chief curator of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin and chief curator of the 36th São Paulo Biennial. He is the founder and was artistic director of SAVVY Contemporary in Berlin and artistic director of sonsbeek20-24, a quadrennial exhibition of contemporary art in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

He was also Curator-at-Large for documenta 14 under the artistic direction of Adam Szymczyk in Athens and Kassel in 2017 and guest curator of the Dak'Art Biennale in Dakar, Senegal, in 2018. In 2019 and 2022, he took over the artistic direction of the 12th and 13th editions of Bamako Encounters, the photography biennale in Mali. Together with the Miracle Workers Collective, he curated the Finnish pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019.

Prof. Dr. Ndikung was visiting professor for Curatorial Studies and Sound Art at the Städelschule and is currently professor and head of the master's program Spatial Strategies at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. In 2020 he was awarded the first International Curators Residency Fellowship at OCAD University in Toronto.

His publications include The Delusions of Care, An Ongoing-Offcoming Tale: Ruminations on Art, Culture, Politics and Us/Others and Pidginization as Curatorial Method.
