The exhibition focuses on various aspects of the work of Magnum photographer Thomas Hoepker and at the same time pays tribute to his adopted home, the USA - especially New York.
A selection of photographs from Hoepker's first legendary road trip in 1963, which took him across the USA for a photo reportage, reveals the extraordinary talent of the Munich-born photographer, who was still an aspiring photographer at the time. Large-format color photographs show New York in the 1980s. The exhibition is complemented by other well-known, iconic highlights as well as previously unpublished photographs by the former president of the Magnum Photos agency.
About Thomas Hoepker
Thomas Hoepker (born Höpker) was born in Munich in 1936 and is one of the most respected German photographers on an international level. From 1959, he worked regularly as a commissioned photographer for magazines and book publications and dedicated himself to photojournalism. In 1989, he became a full member of the legendary Magnum Photos agency, which he led as president from 2003 to 2007.
From the beginning of his career as a photographer, Hoepker devoted himself intensively to the tradition of so-called "human interest photography" or "concerned photography". His sensitive photographs reflect a socially committed, humanistic world view. Hoepker lives and works in New York.
