Play by Ewe Benbenek - German premiere
Unlike her parents, with whom she came to Germany from Poland, she graduated from high school and went to university: AufstiegSHEro. And yet she is still looking for words that locate her. How can the unspoken be described? What does a childhood that was defined by her parents' longing for the wine-red passport mean? In which the parents were asked to speak German with their daughter, even though they couldn't speak it themselves? In which humiliation was part of everyday life and even Poland became foreign?
Ewe Benbenek has poured the search for this into a rhythmically raging stream of words and three voices. At some point, A, B and C shed the burden of memories like a dress that is too small. Instead, they thunder themselves up for the night and strut - clack, clack, bam, bam - through this piece. A furious oscillation between tenderly brutal memory, childlike helplessness and intoxicating rebellion. A painful roar against which they brace themselves by proudly taking the insults of the past for themselves - because they make them what they actually are: Goddesses.
In 2021, Ewe Benbenek received the Mülheim Playwright's Prize for her debut play "Tragödienbastard" and was voted up-and-coming playwright of the year in the "Theater heute" critics' poll.
