Trio Fado

More than 20 years have passed since the group was founded in Berlin. It has been an exciting and rewarding journey that they continue to pursue. They have devoted themselves wholeheartedly to fado—this passionate and often wistful music born in the alleys of old Lisbon—and are received with enthusiasm in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, and other countries. They were also the first fado group to perform in Armenia, both live and on television. They have also performed in several philharmonic halls in Russia and in the Chamber Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic.

They perform famous fados, to which their arrangements lend a personal touch, as well as their own compositions and lyrics.

TRIO FADO represented Portugal for several years as a member of the project “Heimatlieder aus Deutschland” (Songs of Home from Germany). For the film “Night Train to Lisbon,” starring Bruno Ganz and Jeremy Irons, among others, TRIO FADO performed the song “Nunca é tarde” with lyrics by Maria Carvalho.

Maria Carvalho’s vocals can also be heard in several episodes of the ARD series “Lissabon Krimi.” In addition to compositions by Peter Gromer, the lyrics are by Maria Carvalho. One of the songs, “Preso no Tempo,” was nominated for the Film Music Award for Best Song in a Film in 2019.
