SCHÄFER

Pulsating soundscapes of a modular synthesizer push through the room, deform, develop into lonely melodies and finally melt into filigree arpeggios. The sonorous synthesizer sounds float through the registers and are put together like mosaic pieces to form a minimalist sound collage.

SCHÄFER is the solo project of Cologne-based musician Lukas Schäfer, who decided to pursue his passion for analog (modular) synthesizers after completing his drum studies. His minimalist sound pieces combine massive drones with punctual delicate textures, ambient with

electronic dance music.

In fall 2021, his debut album "Mosaik 127" was released on the Cologne label Acoustic Motion Concepts. "Mosaik" (AMC Records) followed on cassette in 2022. Together with Cologne flugelhornist and synthesist Luis Reich, he released the EP "Trails" in 2023. Together with his colleagues from the Sono Kollektiv, he can be heard on the pop ambient compilations 2023 and 2024 (Kompakt).

Jannis Carbotta

Jannis Carbotta is a musician and sound artist currently living in Cologne. In addition to his studies at the Institute for Music and Media in Düsseldorf, he completed a short-term course in computer music and sound art at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The focus of Jannis' artistic work lies in the field of tension between analog and digital spaces. He has already realized sound installations at the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf and researched the topic of listening/hearing. His musical approach sometimes focuses on processed field recordings and soundscapes, sometimes it consists of experiments with synthesizers, samplers and electric guitar with pop elements. His current side project AEOL explores the sounds of wind organs in combination with synthesizers and sound collages. Besides graduating from IMM, which also fostered his skills in visual and sonic arts, he has always been active in various band formations as a guitarist and bassist (No Visa, Infant Finches, Ooort) and curates radio shows as a DJ (Noods Radio, Dublab, LYL Radio). In February 2023 he released his first solo EP "A Magic Spin" on the label Kame House Records.
