TUN&LASSEN in Kalk

In the organizer's words:

Mobile Dance Performances and Interactive Experiences in Cologne-Kalk 💛

Jennifer Döring and Philine Herrlein present two works from their repertoire. Through mobile dance performances, objects, and playful interactive activities, they create temporary opportunities for encounters and shared experiences. They invite you to join in, watch, and participate. These events are specifically aimed at people who happen to be passing by: pedestrians, residents, and anyone out and about in the neighborhood.

🟡 With “How Are You—Kalk?”, Jennifer Döring and Philine Herrlein once again take to the streets of Kalk with a yellow handcart and yellow folding chairs, asking: “How are you? How are you doing in Kalk?” They invite people to sit down, observe, and describe what they smell, hear, and see in Kalk. What do people hope for in terms of community life in Kalk, and what do they need to feel at home? Everyone is invited to share their impressions and leave them for others, whether as a movement, a drawing, or a letter.

🟡 With “PARASYMPATHIKUS,” TUN&LASSEN bring questions about idling and being at home to a place where there’s hardly any room for either: public space. In a space where movement is the rule and lingering rarely happens without a commercial purpose, the dancers settle in—with their bodies, their objects, and their time. As the bodies and objects constantly transform, the dancers play with the needs for visibility and retreat, order and disorder, protection and vulnerability. This gives rise to a paradoxical gesture—withdrawal as an invitation to surrender to the need for peace even in the outside world. What do we need to feel safe—to feel at home?

The interplay between the two performances creates moments of disorientation, observation, and encounter. The artists are open to questions and conversations at any time during the performances and look forward to exchanging ideas on the themes of home, community, and idling. Their audience consists of the people who happen to be there—whether by chance or by design, for a short or long time.
