Many Munich residents associate a wide range of memories and emotions with Munich Central Station: from joy to longing, from stress to bad smells. For many people in Munich and throughout the country, however, this station means much more: because it was here, at platform 11, that all the so-called "guest workers" entered the Federal Republic of Germany for the first time from the 1950s onwards and were distributed from here to the country's construction sites and factories.

Did you know that? How much do you know in general about the history of the so-called guest workers and their descendants? About their influence on the history and culture of Germany? When we talk about guest workers, it's usually in relation to the resulting economic miracle, but the history of the people behind it is rarely highlighted.

Jehona Kicaj and her co-authors have set themselves the goal of changing this with their anthology "Und so blieb man eben für immer". The book contains literary prose contributions, essays, poems, experience reports and photographs that deal with so-called guest workers and their children from different perspectives. Personal experiences and an invitation to empathy are at the heart of the contributions and the reading at our GESELLSCHAFTSRAUM.
