Artists of Atelier Köln Süd - Between inner and urban non-places and dystopian visions
The group exhibition UNORTE / DYSTOPIEN 2.0 brings together positions by 17 artists from Atelier Köln Süd and is dedicated to two thematic fields that are as irritating as they are fascinating.
"Unplaces" - spaces without identity, places that serve functional purposes: Freeways, tunnels, industrial wastelands, abandoned buildings or even inner non-places. These are places that tend to be avoided or only entered involuntarily, that are deserted or trigger loneliness in the midst of hustle and bustle. This ambivalence between strangeness, discomfort, mystery and stimulation makes non-places an inspiring source of artistic exploration.
Dystopian scenarios create complementary visions of a possible future in which social systems are thrown out of balance. War, dictatorship, disease and climate change characterize such images. Artists from literature, film and the visual arts have always taken up these visions of the future and translated them into vivid visual forms.
The curated exhibition shows works from various artistic techniques of painting, photography and object art.
The vernissage will take place on June 12, 2026 at 7 pm and will be opened by the deputy district mayor Bettina Spillmann .
